Embrace and love your body. It’s the most amazing thing you’ll ever own.
It’s easy to accept our bodies for how they are, but it can be more difficult for us to actually love ourselves and how our bodies look. What you do and say on the daily can really affect how you feel without you even knowing it.
We criticize our bodies often; we look into the mirror and only see imperfections. We judge ourselves by the rolls we have when we sit, spots on our bodies, celiute, and scars. We sit there and think about all of these things, maybe wishing we had a different body or wishing we didn’t have something on our body that we dislike. We assume that by not having those things we don’t like that we would be more confident… but no matter what, there’s always going to be something “wrong” with us. We can’t make us perfect!
This post is to help turn the negative words and thoughts you have towards your body into a more positive outlook. We need to stop all these things holding us back from enjoying life. You are a very special person and our bodies are pretty amazing! You have the ability to lose or gain weight simply by changing up your lifestyle, we’re able to push a human out of us, able to breathe, smell and taste! There’s a lot to be thankful for! Don’t you agree?
Figure Out Why You’re Uncomfortable
Really dig deep and figure out what’s bothering you. If it’s a scar or spot, learn to love them. I actually have 3 scars on my body. On one arm, a burn mark, the other arm a cat scratch and my lip. I got bit by a dog when I was younger… Yup right on my lips… Aggressive kiss I guess? Hah! We all have things on our body that make us unique and very different from every other person. Which is a GREAT thing!
If you’re unhappy with your body and want to lose weight or even gain some weight, there are ways to achieve that goal! A lot of people want to change their body weight, but not a ton want to work for it. I’m not saying put yourself through a diet, because I truly don’t believe in limiting foods from your day to day life. The whole reason for my website is to show you how to live your life to the fullest by still achieving your health goals! #balance
I promise you, by putting in some hard work in the gym, meal prepping and eating more clean whole foods you will see results and you will feel much better about yourself. It’s more rewarding than wasting time on “skinny teas” or any other products that says it will change your body drastically. If you need to hire a personal trainer, or even a nutritionist to get familiar with everything in the beginning that’s totally fine! Anything you need to do to get yourself healthier and learn more about fitness and nutrition. Always do research before getting a personal trainer though. I see a lot of lazy trainers out there and you need someone motivating and a bit hard on you, so you can keep pushing!
Break Off The Habit Of Criticizing Yourself
The self-hate needs to stop… right now… When you look in the mirror you point out all the small flaws, when you should be pointing out what you love. You may have wide hips, but your butt may look great in jeans! When someone compliments you, take it! Don’t disagree with negative comments and put yourself down. Think and always talk about yourself with the love you deserve.
Treat Yourself How You Treat Others
It’s easy saying mean things about yourself, but would you be that judgmental towards your mother-in-law, sister or mom? Most likely not! Try to change the way you think, by acting like you were your own friend. Treat yourself the way you want the women in your life to view their own body. You wouldn’t want your children to hear what you have to say about yourself, so try your best to change the way you talk and think about yourself.
Pay Attention To How Your Body Feels & Reacts To Things
Your body is a pretty neat thing. If you actually pay attention to it, you will realize how somethings make your body happy, which will end up making you overall happier and in a better mood. Do you feel great after a workout class? Go again! Do you feel sexy and powerful after you squat your first personal record? Keep on pushing yourself! Do you feel great by drinking lots of water? Keep on drinking! Do you feel like sh*t after eating fast food? Maybe change up your lifestyle a bit. Do you feel blah by laying around all day? Ya, me too, so get moving!
Try to incorporate more foods and activities into your life that make your body feel great and most importantly your mind! I don’t know about you, but after an insanely annoying day, sometimes I just want to have wine, talk about my problems and continue bi*ching about why I’m annoyed, but I usually end up at the gym and by the time I leave I’m a whole new person and I don’t even remember why my day was crap. Even if you only have half an hour to spare, a short workout is better than no workout.
Stop Comparing Yourself
There is nothing wrong with having a girl crush, but when we constantly see pictures of a physique we wish we had, it can get unhealthy and we will continue having that jealousy mindset.
When you see people in the gym with amazing figures, understand that THEY worked their ASSES OFF to get to where they are now. Nothing happens overnight, it takes time, effort, dedication, and consistency. So instead of being jealous, start living a better balanced lifestyle. Focus on eating cleaner, prep food and snacks, because it plays a big roll in reaching your fitness goals, workout hard and never give up! Focus on your journey and keep on grinding! Don’t do diets; instead practice more self-control. Learn to cook healthy meals that also taste great and aren’t boring (Ways To Stop Eating Bland Food). There are ways to reach your goals, you just need to put effort into it. Stop being lazy, you won’t get what you want by sitting all day. It’s never too late to start your own fitness journey. So, what are you waiting for?
Ask For Help
It’s ok to not be ok. Like I said earlier, it’s great to seek help instead of not doing anything about a weight loss journey. Research and hire a personal trainer, get on nutrition plan with macros, so you can learn more about how much protein, carbs and fats your body needs. Talk to a friend, parent, or if you need more help there’s nothing wrong with a therapist to understand why you think the way you do, and see how you can work towards changing that mindset.
Get Rid Of Anyone On Social Media That Doesn’t Make You Feel Good
Social media plays a big role in a lot of things. While it can be great for business and catching up with people who live far away it also has its downsides.
Social media affects our mental health more than you know. You follow a ton of shredded females who eat whatever and still look shredded. You end up comparing yourself on the daily to all the pictures of people you don’t even know. You don’t know their struggles or genetics either!
You also see “IG influencers” who sell stuff that they probably don’t even use and you end up on the band wagon of buying sh*t you don’t even need with hopes that maybe you will look like them by taking whatever their selling. Keep in mind that social media can be really fake, with everyone taking pictures and trying to sell supplements these days, so please understand that just because one of your favorite fitness model is selling something it doesn’t mean that he/she is taking the same product. Social media should be fun, not a place that puts you down, or makes you feel a certain way about your body. Unfollow anyone that makes you feel a type of way.
Trust The Process
We want everything to happen in a blink of an eye. We want to be rich, but don’t want to work hard or long hours, we want to lose weight, but don’t want to go to the gym or change up our lifestyle. We all want the quick fix. I hate to break it to you, but life doesn’t work that way. SO do as much as you can to get to where you want and see where you’ll end up a year from now. I love working hard for everything because the reward feels amazing. Don’t quit, keep on pushing and learn that everything takes time, but don’t forget DEDICATION and CONSISTENCY! Learn to understand those words.
Learn To Be Uncomfortable
All growth depends upon activity. There is no development physically or intellectually without effort, and effort means work. Comfort can lead to self-absorption, boredom, and discontent. You can either be comfortable and stagnate or stretch yourself — become uncomfortable — and grow.
Being uncomfortable is when you GROW! In order to reach any goals we may need to have uncomfortable conversations with yourself or with your partner. If you need help losing weight you may need to talk to your partner about having less junk food in the house etc.
Going to the gym can be uncomfortable for new people, but heck I still even get that feeling when I lift heavier than my bodyweight, but we all need to be in those situations in order to focus, grow and learn!
Learn To Block Out The Negatives
People are always going to talk, creep you, and judge, so learning to ignore them is the best thing you can do. People will stand by your side until you decide to maybe prep for your first bikini competition. Then, they start to peer pressure you into coming out and drinking, or won’t fully support your goals and dreams. Toss those people out the window! When trying to accomplish any goal in life you need to be surrounded by like-minded people and friends that will support you 100%! Negative people will only bring you down and make you unhappy.
Stepping On The Scale Is Not The Answer
I know I have mentioned this multiple times throughout my blog, however people will always need to hear it. The scale doesn’t bring anything beneficial to your life, so why should it matter so much? The scale plays tricks on you. You may be killing the gym and loving your weight loss journey until you step on that scale and see the number it gives you. Let me tell you, there is no such thing as the perfect weight or body size. What matters is how happy and confident you are. Obviously you want to be at a healthy weight, but checking the scale won’t do too much. Instead, take progress pictures, because at least you will be able to see changes and it will bring you more happiness and will motivate you EVEN MORE!
Realize It’s Not About Being Skinny But Rather Healthy
The world is always telling us how we should look like. From magazines to social media, we have a lot to see and read and for some it can take a toll on them. We need to realize it’s not about being in a size 0, it’s about being happy, comfortable and healthy in our own skin.
Make Working Out About Feeling Good
Normally when someone is starting out their weight loss journey, it feels like such a drag and not to mention the eating part is just so blah for some… Workout in a way that makes you feel good. Maybe start off with classes, make friends then maybe try working out with them in the weight room. For bigger results you should incorporate weight training no matter what, but you need to find the fun and joy in moving your body. It shouldn’t be dreadful, or else you won’t stick to it. Find fun ways to challenge yourself and make things interesting! There are SO many ways of training your body with different techniques.
Exercising your body is a natural way to boost energy, reduce stress, and keep yourself healthy! When you look at exercise as a “thing” to do so you can lose some weight it starts to change into something hurtful and could result in you having a bad relationship with your body, gym, and food. The whole goal is to have a good relationship with everything from day 1. You shouldn’t feel guilty having a rest day or having a “treat meal” once a week. No fitness journey is easy, but it needs to get you excited and not wanting to come up with excuses each time you should be hitting the gym.
Dress How You Want To Feel
As much as I LOVE my comfy baggy clothes it can also make me feel like a total lazy bum when I wear it constantly. Dressing a certain way will make you feel different with each outfit you choose. Find sexy gym clothes that are fitted or something that you feel confident in. Same goes for normal casual everyday clothes. Get out of the habit of wearing baggy shirts and pants, put actual jeans on sometimes or a gorgeous dress. Your mood and confidence will totally change! 🙂
Read Affirmations or Listen To Podcasts
Reading affirmations is a great way to feel something. It motivates you and instantly shifts my perspective. You can also write them down so you can always read them when you wake up and go to bed. Podcasts are great too, I need to hop on the bandwagon of listening to podcasts in general. There are so many podcasts out there, find one that suits your mood and listen to something as you go for a morning walk or as you stretch.
