I’m sure you have seen these foam rollers at your local gym. You either know what they are, and have neglected using them, or have no idea what they are used for.
Foam rollers are amazing to use, I will be honest, it’s not always a good feeling in the moment, but you will be feeling that “ahh” relief afterwards.
Let me tell you some useful information that you should know about foam rollers! Especially those who workout hard on a regular basis.
- Foam Rollers Are Easy To Use
Not knowing what a certain thing is, can be challenging for a newbie, I used to be there, where I wouldn’t try a new machine because I didn’t want to look dumb for maybe doing something the wrong way. Foam rollers are not only cheap to buy at a local fitness supply shop, (or online), but they are simple to use! You roll the entire length of your muscles, which can be painful at times, especially a couple days after you trained legs. eeek! Spend extra time on those sore tight spots!
- Pre-Workout Warmup
Not only can you use the roller after your workout, but try it before your workout as well! It’s a great warmup to add into your other stretching/warming up routine. Studies show that foam rolling may also help increase range of motion.
- Foam Rollers May Help Prevent Injuries
Increasing your blood flow before workout allows our muscles to move optimally, which may help minimize the possibility of injury. Not only does foam rolling help relax and rehabilitate muscles, it helps them grow and repair by bringing oxygen to the muscles.
- Roll, Roll, Roll
Always stick to rolling out your muscles, rather than ligaments, like your elbows, knees, and lower back.
Stick to your glutes, quads, hamstrings, calves, traps, and lats. You can lightly roll out your shoulders, but should avoid the actual joint. Same with your arms and elbows.
Try and roll out everyday, or else you won’t notice a difference. Pre/Post workout, and when your muscles feel tight on rest days. Once you get into the habit of doing it on a regular basis, it will be easier to stick to it!
- It Can Help You Save $ On Treatments
Who doesn’t love getting treated? Doing it on the regular or for those people who don’t have benefits can get expensive.
I honestly hate gentle massages and always get crazy deep tissue, because I want to get fixed. Having a feel good massage for me is just a waste of money. The whole point of going in is to fix things! I could go every week, because I’m constantly working out my muscles hard. However, if I went as often as I would love to, my benefits would run out in a blink of an eye. The foam roller and lacrosse ball is my lifesaver! It’s also so nice to roll out your muscles whenever you feel tight, instead of waiting for your appointment to get relief.
